001: un: A2

Since it seems to come up a lot, and since we got a bunch of new people recently, I'll make it clear to everyone.

Androids are not machines. Don't call us machines, and don't call us robots.

And since I have your attention still, there's a machine running around. Tall, male, red eyes and white hair. If he starts anything let me know so I can test how sharp my sword is. I promise I'll do it quietly. Or at least with no one else around.

[Oh good, that actually worked. Hopefully.]

A2 has the right idea. Warn people, and make sure they're aware of the threat that he poses. If he starts lashing out at others here, people will be more inclined to take your side when you go to dole out justice.

Though, I imagine some other people may not be too keen on taking turns standing post to have him killed. We really need a jail system...
[... mm... maybe he should do something? ... heh, he'd never finish a project of that scale at this rate.] But that's something to figure out later.

For now, don't antagonize him, and keep your distance. And I mean that.

[9S makes a face, obviously finding the words "A2" and "right idea" adjacent to each other distasteful.]

I'm not the one who's antagonizing anyone, it's him! Machines only know how to kill. If we leave him alone, that's what he's going to do. If jailing is the only option, we don't have time to wait until "later".

9-S...

[If he spoke aloud, his name would be said in warning.]

Clearly he does not only know "how to kill". He came here with the other arrivals this time around, is that not right? And yet there is only one person who has reported as being killed by him. You.

That isn't to say that it's acceptable, but you two clearly have history. It wasn't an attack on a stranger. Perhaps Machines are programmed to kill as you say, but if that was true, there would have been more deaths reported by now, and the current residents would have acted in kind to ensure it didn't happen again.

Your heart is in the right place.
[...does he even have a heart? anyway—] If you are that concerned, perhaps consider having people who are willing to do it take shifts to follow him discreetly and be prepared to react if he tries anything.

Preventative murder may only incite rage that he seems to hold only towards you, and perhaps other androids, at the moment.

[There weren't any flaws in Akechi's reasoning, and for a moment that leaves 9S speechless. He tries to take it all in and accept it, but he just can't. Machines are the enemy. Akechi doesn't understand the kind of threat this one poses. He's doing this for the good of mankind.]

Just because he hasn't killed anyone else yet doesn't actually mean anything. Machines don't reason. If you're so against me killing him, then I'll follow him. I don't need anyone else to help me.

I'm sure you don't.

But regardless, you are not alone, and this is not a weight you should have to bear by yourself. Especially given that he already killed you once.

[Akechi normally isn't this... gentle, but there's something about 9S that makes him reluctant to approach it another way. Even though he feels a simmering annoyance at the fact that he won't let this go, he feels in a way as though... he's dealing with a child, and that smooths over the roughness of his emotions.]

I'm just doing my job.

[A pause, and then he adds, feeling the weight of his failure bearing down on him now more than ever.]

It's 2B's job too. She's the fighter, all I can do is provide support...

[...he really doesn't have the energy for this.]

Do what you want, then.

[How the hell did Kurusu manage something like this? That sheer stubbornness required to keep trying with a person who just refused to listen to reason...

Heh, but even he had his limits.

Quietly, he rises back up. If 9S is this insistent... perhaps deterring him from his duty would only be detrimental, in the end.]

[He can tell Akechi is unhappy with him, and it's gut-wrenching, the black box in his chest throbbing. Seeing him ready to leave, he tries one last time, signing in a flurry.]

I want to protect Akira and those closest to him! I've already failed once... I guess I'm a sorry excuse for a YoRHa.

But...this is my purpose.

[He sees the message on his device, and looks to 9S. After a few moments, he responds.]

If you are that determined to carry out your duty, I will not stop you.

But know this: I know Kurusu quite well. And I know that if he were here, he would have said everything I had and more. He would not want you spending every moment trailing a potential threat.

Of course, the final decision is up to you.

[Akira...would have told him the same? 9S' face twists with uncertainty.]

Don't worry, I'll take turns with the other androids! I still have to stay here and guard the clinic too, and do my other duties...

[Oh, good, that actually worked. A bit of tension eases out of his shoulders, and he nods.

With that, his energy has been completely sapped of him, so he takes his leave.]
