Every once in a while. I smiled once for Ikari-kun because he asked me to, and he had just saved my life. I sometimes did with the Commander, but mostly because it felt obligatory.

I do not do it often.

Not precisely friends, but he is one of the closer people I know at home. I do not really have friends there.

To be clear. I am learning to become friends here. In my home? I think Ikari-kun wants to be my friends, but I do not know that he knows how anymore than me.

He just has other problems. Most relate to his father, I think.

If I understand the context of 'hardass,' yes. Commander Ikari could be described in that way. Reality has not been kind to those who are soft, and he has become hard and closed to everyone.

I am suited for it, yes. Ikari is, whether or not he is mentally prepared for it. He and Unit 01 have a special bond.

But I'm glad you're branchin' out a little. Hell, there's plenty of time out here, and no units to pilot. Might as well.

It seems to be helpful in working with others here, as well. I am finding that the people I work with are more cooperative if I attempt to "Branch Out" some. So, there are a few positives.
