un: rugman | Voting results!
[Carpet and Merlan have been present every day this week to collect and tally people's ballots--if you'd like an action thread with either of them involving that, feel free to post it here! Now that the polls have closed, Carpet is excited to announce the winner, even if he's still a little shaky on the concept of democracy.]
Voting is over now, thank you to everyone who contributed! It was a very close race between Hot Dog and Teddy. Every vote really counted right until the very end!
Let's all congratulate and welcome our new Mayor Hot Dog together!
[For a brief time, before someone corrects him, that last line will read Sultan Hot Dog, rather than Mayor. If you respond to that, please note that it's pre-editing!]

[He's totally knowledgeable about politics, shhhhhh. Also, someone please teach him how to read tone via text, he has a hard time telling when people are joking on here.]
I'm sure whatever you do will be helpful. You're already helping everyone here a lot!

Mayors are basically representatives of the people within what's called a "city." They don't have any major authority, but they are there to guide the people of the city.
[ fuwa you sweet summer child ]
I was joking, really... but I'm happy to have your vote of confidence, Fuwa. It means a lot to me.

[BRB editing! He understands the idea of cities in principle, but in practice..... cities are kingdoms in this world, aren't they? They're self-contained, self-sustaining, self-governing..... relations between such direly cut off cities may as well be diplomatic foreign relations.]
Really? You deserve it either way!
[You've earned his confidence, Akira. :> And most likely, just about anyone could see that fact except you yourself.]

There are greater rulers of some places, but most big places like this have lesser rulers to watch over smaller sections. That way, people can be watched over in manageable groups. It's difficult for a single person to watch over everyone in such a large place.
And there are even places that give the entire adult population a say in what happens. They let them vote for a leader and for laws, kind of like how we all voted for the mayor here.
[ He's just. Going to pause between that message and the next one... ]
I'll do my best to live up to your expectations.

[Carpet isn't entirely convinced, honestly. After all, the Sultan of France--or is it the Sultan of Europe?--is probably dead, just like a good part of the rest of the world. The natives had said there were hardly any people left--none of them had even met anyone outside of their community, aside from those that came from the reset room. So did it really matter what higher rulers there might have once been, when that larger political structure had broken down? For all intents and purposes, isn't Reims essentially alone?
There's no real point in pursuing it farther; talking about it or not won't change the facts. He's more interested in this bizarre concept of democracy, to be honest.]
Why would they let everyone have a say when only a few people can rule? What if people make a bad choice for their kingdom?

People can focus on picking someone better next time. Part of life is learning from mistakes. And some people are willing to fight to make things better, no matter what.

Thank you, Fuwa. ]
