MOD EVENT POST

All teams have decided to share their footage and/or findings during routine supplies missions. It was compiled in chronological order and posted to the Bulletin Board for everyone to see.



Arrival Footage:

All over the world - in the middle of busy streets, empty homes, department stores - red dirt blew in and fell haphazardly into centralized mounds. The dirt settled. The footage begins as someone gets as close as they dare, zooming in and out repeatedly, the camera shaking in their hand as they move. The Matured come first. They climb up and out as asphalt and tile no longer exist beneath the red dirt. The young and the shifting come next. A matured Sound Eater raises its hand and points. They attack. The device falls to the ground and the owner's scream is silenced.

Attack Footage:

In standard news report fashion, a series of videos were compiled by Wall Street Journal reporter Maria Fillian, and her voice can be heard describing what she's seeing. Starting with clips from BBC News, LA Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, and even Google, the footage shows the Sound Eaters attacking Paris, London, Los Angeles, New York, and other cities - both big and small. Police and military forces are brought in but are no match for the Sound Eaters. They attack anyone and everything, seemingly at random and with brutality, leaving nothing moving in their wake. What was supposed to be a fight becomes a rescue and survival mission, groups of people evacuating and heading for less populated areas.

As the footage comes to an end, Maria focuses in on a clip from Times of India. A group of Young Sound Eaters are swarming and killing in any way that they can, completely ignoring a young boy who stands in the middle of the crowd frozen in fear. He doesn't move and they don't attack him.

Look at the way they avoid the boy. Why are they leaving him alone? Is it because he's a child and not a threat? It's clear that the reporter isn't sure but believes it's important. Wait. There. Did you see that? Now what was once a crowd of over a thousand, is down to the boy, the Sound Eaters and a woman kneeling on the ground. She rewinds the footage and plays it back. The Sound Eaters stand there aimlessly, breathing heavily, waiting for something and then the woman yells for the child to run and all the Sound Eaters converge on her. Maria gasps. They can't see.

The footage ends.

Reset Room Footage:

The attacks have begun to spread out, giving some survivors the chance to group up in areas outside of the major cities. A woman, using the webcam on her laptop, is recording the inside of a Macy's. While her and her group were looking for supplies before heading to her family's cabin, they noticed the red dirt in the men's clothing department. The footage pans from left to right slowly, showing how the floors and walls of that corner of the store are completely covered. One member of their group sticks their hand down into the dirt and yells back that the floor is gone. Rather, that where they should be able to find tile it's just dirt. The battery dies before anything else is filmed.

Mass Grave Footage:

By this time, the 7.442 billion people in the world has been knocked down to less than a million, spread out and all in hiding. Some have come to realize that sound attracts the invaders and others have not. The recording starts out zoomed in way too close to a group of pigeons that were all (violently) killed. The footage pans out and the person recording follows a trail of dead that leads to a mass grave. Carefully, they hold the camera up so that it can film quickly - inside are people, animals, radios, wind chimes, and many other bits of tech and machinery. The footage ends abruptly.

Biologist Notes:

From a bunker, Hendricks has recorded notes and opinions on the Sound Eaters, Reset Room, and the apocalypse. The recordings are corrupt, but some has been cleaned up enough to be read and watched. It's clear from the beginning that Hendricks believed that the 'end' was inevitable and had made preparations for this. He has a French accent and there are notes describing how the Sound Eaters are attracted to noise and have built a nest at the Eiffel Tower. Since the recording cuts in and out, it's unclear as to why he makes all of his assumptions. The native who compiled everything for the Bulletin Board, has written out what he could (Hendricks questions and comments), and it plays across everyone's devices.

- The Sound Eaters and Reset Rooms came at the same time.
- Hendricks is alone and possibly unwell.
- The Matured are in charge but rarely come out or if they do, they are better at hiding.
- The shifting are grotesque.
- The young are violent and lash out at anything.
- The Sound Eaters kill and attack everything; animals, cars, people.
- If it makes noise, they go for it.
- Their methods have changed.
- What was once an all out attack has become more calculated as people have learned to hide and be quiet.
- People are coming out of the red dust.
- Everything has grown so quiet.
- Even the crickets are gone.
- I'm alone now.

They seem to need us, but they don't want us.

I have some from the storm and examining them conveniently just moved to the top of my priority list. If anyone wants to join me we can make a social event of it.

A shame no one thought to collect any from the tower trip, a comparison of the two would be interesting.

I still want to collect some samples from the island in the middle of the Seine itself, but. If anyone's up for a latecomers trip to old Paris, I'm game.

[Also it scares the piss out of him. He doesn't even have a suit and the Sound Eaters have beaten down everything to come against them so far with extreme prejudice. Tony's under absolutely no delusions on how he'd fair against one.]

I know someone that has a sample from the tower trip.

[ Getting Hux to part with it would take some persuading but even he would likely see the merit in further study. ]

You can't see it, but this is me being impressed right now. Should I asked how he managed it? From the sounds of it it'd been wall to wall Sound Eaters.

With great difficulty, I imagine. Prolonged exposure to the dust seems to have a paralytic effect.

We were fortunate it began to rain. The water mitigated enough of the effect that most of us were able to escape.

Rain, is it. Sounds like I need to find a farmer's almanac.

[There's a pause. He could just end it cavalierly there. He could. He wants to. But he can't. Because there's a part of him, a part of him that came to be in a cave nearly a decade ago, that can't simply walk away.]

How bad was it in Paris? Same as here?

If they're blind, as it seems to be implied, then hitting them with a barrage of sound from multiples sources might be enough to confuse them; risky to test, of course, especially this close to the town itself.

The city seemed to have been abandoned. Likely some time ago, though it would be difficult to pinpoint exact times. If there were survivors they put this community to shame in terms of caution. [ Not impossible just extremely unlikely. ]

How are you going to examine it? If it destroys floors and walls, wouldn't it destroy a microsope if you put it on there?

Last I checked this wasn't a violatile acid. You've seen it destroy floors and walls?

On the video I watched, the dust piled up, on the floor. Or,
where floor used to be. And then there wasn't floor anymore, just dust and dirt. Seems like the dust creates pathways, so maybe just a little isn't a big deal; I don't know.

[look, she's a girl from a highly-advanced alien planet. you wanna run the math? she can crunch some numbers. but she is so not her sister or Lena Luthor or any of her sciencey friends.]

I could kiss you right now if that wouldn't be weird and possibly illegal. [What are you, 15 Kara? CLOSE ENOUGH.] If we get enough dust and can crack the signal that directs the portals, just maybe we can get out of here.

Not illegal but definitely weird. That would be AMAZING, though, holy smokes!!

The portals, I mean, not the kissing.

I'm going to ignore that doubt as to my skills, but. This might just work. And I mean the portals, not you and me. You're adorable in a spunky way, but I'm kind of engaged. It's sort of like a leash.

The portals seem to be directed by the… Seriously, we have got to come up with some names. Fully formed Sound Eaters? The ones that don't look particularly human. We just need to find out how they do it.

Oh! I don't know how helpful this is, but I was talking with Sora the other day about a friend of mine named Cisco. He has this power where he can create breaches between different Earths. It's like portals. He gave me this... doohickey to call him with, from my Earth to his Earth, so that he could just create a breach and I could pop up over there!

I remember what it looks like. Do you think you could create something like that? We could call him and have our own, non-monster-y portal maker. What do you think?

You've never had a committment issue a day in your life, have you.

I don't have any powers, but sure. Send me a schematic and if it's purely mechanical I'll see what I can do.

A few, actually. Well.. several, actually, now that I think about it. That doesn't make it less sexist!

As for the device, I don't think he used any of his powers to make it. It's just like a phone that stretches across different dimensions of Earth.

You're really determined to stick that on me, aren't you? List some of these commitment issues. Right now I'm thinking you don't like sharing the sheets.

I mean if it walks and quacks like a duck...

[Kara erases that message before she can send it. that's a little too rude, even if Tony's being a bit disrespectful. Whoever he's engaged to, she hopes they read him the riot act for the whole "leash" thing.]

Sharing the sheets IS a pain in the butt, but I have other concerns as well. Lots of them.

[like how she's an alien. like how she can accidentally break humans' noses by kissing them. like how could they even make a baby? is it legal to get married? sure, there's the Alien Emancipation Act back home, but a lot of smaller details and rights are still pretty dicey. So, yeah, Tony, all of that leads to some... commitment issues.

But she's not going to enlighten him on that right about now.]

Not sure on the materials. Typical phone parts?
But with maybe a... well, they tend to talk a lot about a "particle accelerator" whenever I go to their Earth. I'm not sure if that was actually USED in this thing or not. Or if it could be.

[Surprisingly leash comments are the least of his and Pepper's relationship. It's more...him calling out terrorists to cage matches and creating murderbots. Throwing their friends in jail. There's kind of a list stemming from him not...adhering to Pepper's ground rules.

And he is very much not saying how crazy he's feeling without her. He keeps trying to reassure himself F.R.I.D.A.Y. would let him know the millisecond she ever arrives. But somehow the thought isn't sticking.]

If you tell me it's sharing your improbably large city apartment and which drawer socks go in I'm going to have to stop you there. I have seen Sex in the City for all I'm dating myself here.

If I put a particle accelerator into a phone that's not going to end well for you, me or Reims. Not without some vibranium which, coincidentally, I'm fresh out. I'll ask around. Maybe someone has some magic that can supplement the dampening effect.

It's a little more involved than that, but... sure, sock drawers. We'll go with that one.

Come to think of it, I think all the particle accelerator talk was because they built one that blew up. Maybe? Lots of things blow up on their world...

[Tbh the only reason he hasn't called her Rachel Green is because he's not sure she's old enough for Friends. THIS COULD BE WORSE.]

You want me to call someone who regularly blows things up to help us out?

[BACK UP THE TRAIN. He's not feeling so comfortable in this plan anymore.]

No! No no, nothing like that. CISCO doesn't blow stuff up. At least, he's never admitted to blowing anything up? I've seen some of his gadgets. They're really smart and well-made! I think it was his boss that made a lot of things, you know, go kaboom.

[This is so reminiscent of Peter he is instantly suspicious. So suspicious.]

Unhunh. Let's backtrack. Who does your friend work for? Also, remind me, why are you traveling between versions of Earth? Sounds a little much for a daily commute.

[He's not big on the dad instincts, but look he has one or two. SOMEHOW....]

STAR Labs, but I don't remember his boss's name. I've only met him once...

My friend has superpowers and sometimes I help him. As a journalist. He just happens to live on a different Earth dimension.
