I started work on a little side project to keep my mind active in the long nights here. It's difficult to find proper sleep in this stillness. I usually work on planning and working through designs during my downtime, but paper and pen are louder here than anything I am willing to risk.

I have some experience with technology and I've been developing an addition of sorts to these devices they provided us with. It's a program that allows for designing blueprints and detailing maps, but it has other applications, with the primary functions being the ability to draw or hand write on the screens rather than relying on the selection of available characters here. I have the framework done, but it will need some work if I'm going to make it fully compatible.

I could use some willing volunteers interested in trying it out. I just need your device briefly and a little bit of your time. If you would be interested, or have other ideas about the implementation or capabilities, let me know. I'll see what I can manage.

That would help. I can not work on trying to connect the app through the devices unless I have more than one to test it with and so far spares are difficult to locate. I have managed enough interest that I think the best option is to get everyone together and let everyone try it out together.

Do you know where the library is? If I can get you to come before anyone else I can use yours to finish the sync codes.

[He's not sure what sync codes are, but he understands enough to realize that he needs an extra device to figure out how to get it onto everyone else's. That, at least, he can help with!]

That shouldn't be difficult. Is it connected to the network here?

I'm instructing people to meet me at the library. With such a visual application I would prefer my testers be readily available to look over other devices as necessary without having to teach people how to send detailed error reports.

Not directly, but should be able to bridge a link between the two for data acquisition.

That makes sense to me, though I doubt most of the people here are qualified to do any complex debugging. Did you have a date in mind?

guess i should ask: is it something you think you can port to a bigger computer later, if we find some that work? just thinking about the blueprints and mapping part for that since that seems more fiddly to do right on the small device screen.

Porting it shouldn't be difficult. It's easier if I can get the device linked to the network, but the way I've designed the source, it should adjust to work on any size display with ease.

If you would like to come help me try out the syncing elements, and test out what the program is capable of on the device for now, I am gathering volunteers to the library. The mapping and blueprint elements were my primary goal. The other functions are just side tools I found further uses for.

Good. When you're available, come by the library. It will be easier to test the syncing functions initially, until I have it fully worked out and uploaded to the network. The devices already link up to others in their proximity. And that makes transferring the program and data from it much simpler.

I am a craftsman and would greatly appreciate the blueprint design function. I could test it out for you, if you like.

That was the primary design element. I think you will find the available tools very useful in that. I am having volunteers come to the library with their devices. It's easier to test the program through the sync function the devices already operate with for now.

You can let me know if you find it lacking any of the tools you might need. I am still working on the project, so this is not the final product.

I would love to help you out by being a volunteer and helping out by testing it. My device, before it was taken, had a somewhat similar function to what you're describing.

With the proper work, your new device will be closer to what you lost. I have been instructing volunteers to come to the library to help test the device. If you come by we can discuss what you need or want from it and you can help me ensure the different functions work properly with the network and the way these devices sync together.
