In some of my conversations with others, I've noted that people who arrive here seem to be from very different places. Different planets doesn't feel entirely surprising to me, but I've met a few from my planet - Earth - who are either from varying years or even what seems to be alternate timelines.
Is this sort of thing normal to anyone here? Something you've had experience with? This place doesn't seem like it has the technology for something as advanced as manipulating time and space, but I guess looks can be deceiving.
For those of you from Earth, I'm curious about a few things:
What year was it for you?
What was the state of the planet? I.E. global warming, population, food supplies, etc
Had the government taken any steps to fix the state of the planet?
I'd like to hear more about worlds that aren't Earth as well, if anyone is willing to share, but as I don't know the science or the history, I can't really ask specific questions to compare it to my own home.

Earth is Tidally locked. Don't know anything about global warming, but it's just androids and machines on earth, and the occasional animal. Don't know about the food situation since androids don't need it.
There is no government. I guess for us androids anything like it would be called YoRHa, but they're a bunch of liars and murderers, so I tend not to listen to them too much.

Do you know what year it was locked by chance?

Less than 50 years ago, we faced a nuclear war that encompassed the whole planet, commonly referred to as the Maelstrom. Most notably, the United States of America are now just uninhabitable terrain. Most of humanity's remains have bonded together under an ideology called Lifeism, which values health and harmonic coexistence above all else. The boom in medical science and technology that was spawned by this has successfully eradicated almost all illnesses within those who subject themselves to the rules of admedistrative society. In other areas, wars are still ongoing, though no longer nuclear in nature.
A torn world. Half false paradise, half upfront hell. Mankind has been diminished greatly, and it continues to exist only in conditions that kill it.
[ She's mostly sharing this because she wonders if anyone else has a similar story to tell, but she can't deny the contents of this post's replies generally interest her. ]

It's interesting the differences and similarities; we didn't suffer nuclear war, but overpopulation and lack of food resources to sustain it, plus the natural damage to the planet, caused a similar large amount of uninhabitable areas of land. We focused our technological advances on monitoring humanity, growing food, and expanding government control.

It's hard not to think about when we're being brought from so many different places. What if there are commonalities that are important to discovering why we were brought here? [ This is absolutely not why she's asking but that is BESIDE THE POINT okay. ]

But maybe your future will be different! Or you can use the knowledge you get here to make certain it is when you go home.

Or as we say contemporarily, 414 P.C.
Post Condescension, referring to 11/11/11, the day when an alien tyrant fish queen revealed herself to the world and threw humanity directly into a spiral of self-destruction that let her take over and eventually wipe out the human race.
The alien tyrant was from the universe that created the universe whose timeline was reset to make my universe.
Global warming isn't an issue anymore, though, so that's cool.
HIC melted the ice caps without waiting for us to finish the job.

That's probably the more interesting version of Earth that I've heard about so far.
Unfortunate about the humans, I guess.

my name's lys and i guess i'm from earth?
never thought of the world as having a name before
1. it's the fifth year of queen gauthildr's reign! or maybe the sixth. so about eight hundred years since my country was founded. that's what we start from for our calendar, but other countries have their own.
we don't have devices like these
we just write letters and send them through the post
2. i've never left the country, so i'm not really sure! but we have long winters where i'm from, so i don't think "global warming" has happened to us.
almost everyone has to hunt, trade, and or farm for their food
there's usually enough to go around, but it depends on the weather
and the spirits, i guess
....there's a lot of people?
mostly down south by the coast, though
it's warmer there, plus easy access to the trade ships
3. the queen and the nobles have their duties, of course
but i've never really noticed them trying to "fix" anything besides, like
broken bridges and stuff
and probably making sure that war doesn't happen
i could tell you a lot more but i'm not sure where to start either
i don't have any experience at all with "alternate timelines"
it's a lot to think about!

I did have one question though; what do you mean by "it depends on [ . . . ] the spirits"?

I'm not from Earth but am familiar with it in the broader sense. The Fath Sector was the staging ground for several significant battles, though to my knowledge the war reached Earth itself.

Do you know how the war effected Earth at all? Or do you not have access to that sort of information?

I'm not sure about overcrowding, but my Earth has been accepting aliens from other planets for awhile now, but they've been immigrating to Earth a lot more lately, seeking refuge because their planets are at war and getting destroyed. My president recently signed the Alien Emancipation Act, granting aliens citizenship.
Oh! Also, I don't really understand this, but my friend Barry, who lives on Earth-1, tried to tell me all about multiple earths and the timeline and basically there's at least 38 earths,
probably more, and they all have the same population. But, where on my earth, I'm a reporter,
on Earth-5, for example, I might be a doctor. Or homeless. Or whatever. But it will still be 2017 on those earths too. And travel between the earths is possible.
I live on Earth-38 by the way.
no subject
That's... a lot.
I didn't even know there was more than 1.
So all the Earths on the same timeline, then? It would be the same year no matter what Earth you were on? That's... strange,
but I guess it keeps things simple.

I hear people talk about global warming and overpopulation but I don't know if the government's doing anything about it.
I haven't really dealt with this sort of thing before but I hear it's possible. If this place is far outside it could touch a lot of places at weird spots. No technology needed. Just have to slip through the wrong hole. Like really bad luck.
no subject
But I do have really bad luck, so I guess maybe it's possible.

It's 20[XX... aka just assume it's like 2017, like everyone, shounen series just give us timelines.]
There were no current global crisis, each country is dealing with their own issues. Japan has seen a surge of villain activity after the retirement of the hero All Might. To compensate, the government is issuing hero licenses earlier than ever to fill the void created in the pro hero community.
If anyone's experienced a similar situation, I'd like to hear it. Only a few people here have mentioned any sort of metahuman powers and from the Earth I lived on, they were an everyday occurrence. It's stranger to not have some form of ability.

some of the old ones tried to stop the climate disaster. others made war machines for profit. the war machines are what wiped out all of the old ones.

How fortunate that the "old ones" has the sense to store embryos just in case, though.

Anyway, I am from the same Earth as A2. Well, sort of. Same year, but I was actually on a satellite base orbiting Earth, and waking up here is actually the first time I've ever gotten to be on the surface before! It's even more beautiful in person than the pictures!!! ❤

He muses over the best way to explain his own timeline for a moment, before tapping out a reply. ]
I hail from Japan - Edo period - or mid 1700's by what I have seen of a western calendar- [The exact date by Houou's own reckoning means little in this instance, but he can at least offer something close to it. ]-I, however, was born mid to late Sengoku period - late 1500's early 1600's.[ Has it really been that long? Goodness.. ]
As for our situation, I have only had experience in the correction of a timeline gone awry. Time can only go so long being meddled with, before it finds it's way once again it seems.
[ 'Global warning' has no meaning to Houou and he lacks a frame of reference, though he can gather an idea from the replies of others, he feels it's unnecessary to throw confusion into the mix. ]
no subject
[ ... Wait. ] That was rude. My apologies.
[ Much better. ]
The idea of things going crazy when messing with time is definitely not a new concept to me. I mean, not something I've ever witnessed first hand, but there are lots of ideas surrounding it in the theoretical science community.

I'm from Earth. 20XX Japan.
[It's the near future.]
Global warming is still happening, but I suppose some governments have been taking measures. I don't really keep myself up to date on politics or anything. The government's pretty hands-off when it comes to where I live, so I don't really care what they're doing.
