I never expected to be back in this place. Things around here sure have changed. Not that I expected it to stay the same, all things considered, but... I definitely remember it being livelier. I guess a lot of people didn't make it and those monsters are still out there. It feels like the town itself is smaller, too, but that could just be my memory slipping.

I don't know how I left or how I came back. It feels like a dream I can't wake up from. From what I'm reading, it sounds like a lot of people have gone missing lately. Hopefully they just went back home.

If you're reading this, how long have you been here? How long has it been in general?

This is Kiryu Kazuma, by the way. If anyone's still around who remembers me. It's been a while.

((ooc: Kiryu's back from a canon update in which he's aged eleven (!!) years, and he has no idea that in terms of in-game time, he's only been gone for about 20 days. His memories of this place are fuzzy at best, though, as a result. I also haven't really been able to look at the comms much during my hiatus, so anything you fill him in on helps me, too!

Also, in case this turns into action tagging: Other than some lines around his eyes that definitely weren't there before, he's barely aged. Maybe he's a little bit broader now, but that's really it. ~~dem titties~~))

Okay, so this has really been bugging me lately.

Why are there so many coins in the fountain? Not just here, but back home too. Wouldn't that contaminate the water? I mean, I guess it's not very clean to begin with, but still! They don't use Old World currency here, so these coins have to be at least as old as the Sound Eaters. So why? It seems pretty pointless to just throw money away like that.

Some of you may know Marcel, one of the native construction workers here. Maybe some of you even come to the weekly meetings he hosts, he's one of the best innovators and inventors in the community.

[Not that there's a big chance of that--they're somewhat private, after all, mostly attended by natives and fellow construction workers. Still, he doesn't want a big group tromping around the poor guy's apartment while he's sick, especially since it would risk spreading the infection, so..... well, the best way to take care of his coworker's favor is to take things to the network, as much as he's uncomfortable it.]

He's sick right now, so I agreed to host this meeting for him, and it seems like a good time to open the group up to ideas from the wider community. This week we're talking about how we can improve soundproofing methods, or extend them to things we haven't been able to muffle before.

This is just brainstorming, so feel free to toss out whatever ideas you want I guess? I'll keep an eye on everything to make sure the conversation doesn't take any strange turns.

((OOC: This is an NPC native he's talking about, so feel free to assume your character comes to these community improvement meetings if you want to. Any good ideas we get out of this will come back to the mods and get implemented, so go for whatever you think your characters might suggest! I understand the need to feel separate from this world but there can’t be an us and them, the natives. It’s us and them, the monsters who feed on sound.

Many of us have abilities. Powers that are useful. There are natives that do as well. If we band together, we can keep ourselves safe. All of us.

[He wants to make his motives clear. He wants to survive. To get back home where he has unfinished business.]

I’m compiling all the information gathered here and there will be three different sections. Public, private, and what you can help with rather than abilities.

So I guess I'm the fucking mayor of this shithole now. Pretty funny for a guy who never voted in his life. I don't know whether to thank the assholes who voted for me or punch you all, but I always was better at punching than saying thank you so you can guess where I'm leaning.

I'm taking this to mean the Natives are washing their hands of us. They don't want to be responsible for what happens next, but they still want to reap the benefits if we manage to make progress with the Sound Eaters. I get why they're scared, but where I come from death is always permanent and patriots lose their lives every day so the people back home can be free. Even if we come back, that doesn't make our sacrifice mean less.

Alright, enough of that bullshit, I'm getting to a point. All of us are going to pool our resources and Soundproof the Communal Houses. I want as many done as possible before the new people get here. We're constructing a Prison too which needs to be fully soundproofed and tough enough to keep shitbags inside. If there's anyone or anything you're worried about coming here from your world, you can let us know HERE. Mike is putting together a book so we'll all be ready. If you want to help, drop off materials at the Clinic, which is always looking for volunteers. Stay tuned for us rehabbing the Hospital too. We need anyone who knows any fucking thing about medicine and repairing androids or whatever that shit is.

No one does anything alone, there need to be witnesses to everything that happens in this crater. If you go out to the Sound Eaters: Bring your device and record. We don't know if the memory loss from the Room is permanent, but it's better not to risk being wrong. We need all the information we can get on those things. I'm doing a trip when the new arrivals get here out to Monster Island. If you want in, let me know.

You know, where I come from there's not really any sounds except in the cities. It's desert as far as the eye can see, so I thought the silence here would be familiar, kind of normal. I spent a lot of time in the desert. But it feels very eerie here, I guess that's just cuz we're all straining to hear any sound! I wonder what a frog croaking would sound like. Or a bird calling. Whenever people talk about Earth that is the kind of thing they mention. Pretty crazy how all that can change.

But I'm glad the red dust chose some great people! I think we're all doing a good job helping here. Maybe someday we'll all have answers. And maybe get home.

How many of you are planning on staying even if we do find a way back? I've been thinking about it. I don't think I'll be ready for a while. I've gotten use to trees. Silence isn't so bad. Especially when you have good company.

Houou's searched. An entire sweep of the town in all the obvious places, accompanied by growing anxiety. He could have been reset, again, it's very possible given what he saw inside Naruto's mind those moments before the Sound Eaters killed them the first time, but the message afterwards says otherwise, says that he was waiting, should be here.

But he's not.

Houou turns to the network in a final bid for answers, not at all prepared for the fact that none are most likely forthcoming.]

It perhaps has been several days now, but has anyone seen Naruto at all recently?

Hello. I’m Lorem Laurel and I’m making plans to start running and hosting a sort of activity centre for the kids here in the town.

It'll be located in the house where my friend, Alex, and I reside. The rooms will be soundproofed and furnished so there’ll be a guaranteed safe place for the kids to be kids. Play games. Talk to each other. Things like that. I would love to get feedback on what you think would be needed for this since, admittedly, this is my first time attempting to run a project of this scale.

Hello! I would like to announce the opening of the new Yuutopia Dance Studio, located across from the lovely Verdrel Square! The building has been beautifully renovated with help from the locals and is soundproofed! We have two hardwood dance halls, a more breezy top floor and more cozy basement level. The basement is especially well insulated so we can hold more guided classes than before, now able to speak freely in the space. We hope to see many new people interested in the benefits of fitness! All are welcome!!

Yuuri and I will be curating the space and giving classes on the regular. We'll try to keep an updated list of times and classes on the chalk board out front. When entering, please quickly and quietly open and close the door, so the space can remain as safe as possible.

Also, feel free to ask either of us directly for information. We're going to be teaching strength training, yoga, and ballet. Classes will all be at the beginner level unless there is interest in more advance study. We hope to see a lot of new faces!

PS: Also, if I happened to have acted strangely toward you some nights ago, MY APOLOGIES. I was under the influence...

Just wanted to let housemates and others know Will and I got one of the private houses with land. It's the house with the Castle Wheeler-Byers sign. You're all welcome to visit if you're not a mouthbreather.

And fight club is always open to members. I know the rule is not to talk about it [ or so he’s been told - the movie doesn't exist yet from the time he's from ] but that's kinda impossible when you want more people to join. So if you're interested, let me or Hotdog know, okay?

Also, I know Eddie said the natives told him monsters from home could come here, so I wanted to ask everyone who has monsters from home to talk about them here. Then maybe I could put together a monster manual and make it available to everyone? Just in case more monsters start popping up so we all know what to look out for. I put together a form. If you can't answer everything that's fine. Maybe we can even compare notes to help us fight the sound eaters?
