MOD EVENT POST

All teams have decided to share their footage and/or findings during routine supplies missions. It was compiled in chronological order and posted to the Bulletin Board for everyone to see.

Arrival Footage:
All over the world - in the middle of busy streets, empty homes, department stores - red dirt blew in and fell haphazardly into centralized mounds. The dirt settled. The footage begins as someone gets as close as they dare, zooming in and out repeatedly, the camera shaking in their hand as they move. The Matured come first. They climb up and out as asphalt and tile no longer exist beneath the red dirt. The young and the shifting come next. A matured Sound Eater raises its hand and points. They attack. The device falls to the ground and the owner's scream is silenced.

Attack Footage:
In standard news report fashion, a series of videos were compiled by Wall Street Journal reporter Maria Fillian, and her voice can be heard describing what she's seeing. Starting with clips from BBC News, LA Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, and even Google, the footage shows the Sound Eaters attacking Paris, London, Los Angeles, New York, and other cities - both big and small. Police and military forces are brought in but are no match for the Sound Eaters. They attack anyone and everything, seemingly at random and with brutality, leaving nothing moving in their wake. What was supposed to be a fight becomes a rescue and survival mission, groups of people evacuating and heading for less populated areas.

As the footage comes to an end, Maria focuses in on a clip from Times of India. A group of Young Sound Eaters are swarming and killing in any way that they can, completely ignoring a young boy who stands in the middle of the crowd frozen in fear. He doesn't move and they don't attack him.

Look at the way they avoid the boy. Why are they leaving him alone? Is it because he's a child and not a threat? It's clear that the reporter isn't sure but believes it's important. Wait. There. Did you see that? Now what was once a crowd of over a thousand, is down to the boy, the Sound Eaters and a woman kneeling on the ground. She rewinds the footage and plays it back. The Sound Eaters stand there aimlessly, breathing heavily, waiting for something and then the woman yells for the child to run and all the Sound Eaters converge on her. Maria gasps. They can't see.

The footage ends.

Reset Room Footage:
The attacks have begun to spread out, giving some survivors the chance to group up in areas outside of the major cities. A woman, using the webcam on her laptop, is recording the inside of a Macy's. While her and her group were looking for supplies before heading to her family's cabin, they noticed the red dirt in the men's clothing department. The footage pans from left to right slowly, showing how the floors and walls of that corner of the store are completely covered. One member of their group sticks their hand down into the dirt and yells back that the floor is gone. Rather, that where they should be able to find tile it's just dirt. The battery dies before anything else is filmed.

Mass Grave Footage:
By this time, the 7.442 billion people in the world has been knocked down to less than a million, spread out and all in hiding. Some have come to realize that sound attracts the invaders and others have not. The recording starts out zoomed in way too close to a group of pigeons that were all (violently) killed. The footage pans out and the person recording follows a trail of dead that leads to a mass grave. Carefully, they hold the camera up so that it can film quickly - inside are people, animals, radios, wind chimes, and many other bits of tech and machinery. The footage ends abruptly.

Biologist Notes:
From a bunker, Hendricks has recorded notes and opinions on the Sound Eaters, Reset Room, and the apocalypse. The recordings are corrupt, but some has been cleaned up enough to be read and watched. It's clear from the beginning that Hendricks believed that the 'end' was inevitable and had made preparations for this. He has a French accent and there are notes describing how the Sound Eaters are attracted to noise and have built a nest at the Eiffel Tower. Since the recording cuts in and out, it's unclear as to why he makes all of his assumptions. The native who compiled everything for the Bulletin Board, has written out what he could (Hendricks questions and comments), and it plays across everyone's devices.

- The Sound Eaters and Reset Rooms came at the same time.
- Hendricks is alone and possibly unwell.
- The Matured are in charge but rarely come out or if they do, they are better at hiding.
- The shifting are grotesque.
- The young are violent and lash out at anything.
- The Sound Eaters kill and attack everything; animals, cars, people.
- If it makes noise, they go for it.
- Their methods have changed.
- What was once an all out attack has become more calculated as people have learned to hide and be quiet.
- People are coming out of the red dust.
- Everything has grown so quiet.
- Even the crickets are gone.
- I'm alone now.

They seem to need us, but they don't want us.

People have been killed. The natives are better at keeping their heads down. We lost one on the trip to Paris but otherwise those burials have been more scarce.

The deaths-- resets-- of people from the room are a bit harder to track. Several people speak about it on the network and there's a small logbook in the room itself but there's no guarantee someone will sign it. We have no idea of knowing who has died how many times.

Or where they are, if they vanish.

[So, not an optimistic picture! Not at all. Still, he was asked about his experience, not for any solutions or hope. This was where they were.]

[Sorry, his bad, he was just raised on it. He's even got an ID. He's got students with provisional licenses. He hasn't even gotten to have the cognitive dissonance of anyone else's hero system.]

I'm assuming 3-5 additional people with enough physical strength to move and place the equipment without risks. If you're looking for anything else specific, tell me now.

The last rainstorm was only about a day, if the weather patterns have changed significantly we may need to undertake some of the travel without the cover of rainfall.

Humanity is violent by nature. They always seek more deadly weapons. It was inevitable that they made one that would only be used in desperation.

[Rei... did not have a great view of humanity historically.]

Update a current map? Yes. Do we have graph paper? That might make it simpler, along with a ruler or some other means of measurement. We are basically starting from scratch.

[Well, shit. He kind of had her there. There was no logical reason to say yes, none to say no. Rei thought about it for a moment and ultimately settled on a brief holding pattern that made sense considering his earlier terms.]

I will answer this after I have spoken with others about friendship, and you tell me what it means to you. Until then, we are acquaintances.

They have to know what electricity is. I’m not teaching a caveman how to splice a wire.

Far as the weather, it doesn’t have to rain the whole time. But Paris isn’t our home field. I like to hedge my bets and a little added insurance never hurt anyone. As long as it’s raining while we’re setting up that’s good enough for me, unless you’re seeing something I’m not.

[Doesn't hurt to have a second opinion and it’s not as if his usual war council is anywhere to be found.]

I'm guessing it's either that or distance from the head sound eater.

[ Or like. Whatever the heck the one that seemed surrounded by the stuff would be considered. ]

It's hard to say for sure without doing more tests, though, and I'd need more of the stuff for that.

I think they were human. I think we were birthed into this world the same.

powerful magic. like what the cardinal witches possess. though your theory seems to rule that one out.

you are lucky to not have many weaknesses.

[ laughing at the thought. ]

no, but magic exists where i'm from. it is outlawed by the ruler of the kingdom though.

how powerful are you? have you tried combining your magic with others?

It's busy, easy to get lost an forget your problems. I'm

[ Hm. ]

I think I'm from another version of Earth. I recognize a lot of the place names in those videos, but nothin like this has happened before. At least not on this scale.

I don't miss it, though. This place is spooky but
I can talk to people so I don't mind.

Your world is different, then?

I've always just recorded video data...

I bet if we asked the natives, they might know where to find a film camera.

I'm not a lady.

If they did flirt with me, I didn't know it. But I haven't really spent that much time around people my own age in... years.

I hope you're right. I'm not exactly patient.

[ this is...

this is a lot for her to take in. she knew that everyone came from different worlds and had their own struggles to face before arriving to remis.

what he's describing however - it's hard for her head to wrap around, if only because how overwhelming it must have been to find yourself in a literal game of life or death. the closest thing she can think of is back to the siege of dust tumbles, when she was younger and smaller and could only cower hide as people she loved and cared for were struck down by the dreadroids.

so the first thing she writes is: ]

I'm happy you and your friends - I assume your friends? The 'we' implies more people in this and I apologise if that's not the case - were able to overcome that.

It must have been difficult with how you had to fight a god, false or not, but I'm glad for you and the others came out in the end.

[ and in regards to his question- ]

I think something is involved beyond the Sound Eaters with what's happened to this Earth, yes.

While I don't necessarily think it's a someone at the moment, they, the Sound Eaters, must have had some form of help in getting here. Or helped them evolve to this point where they can use humans because I bet the first Sound Eaters couldn't have been humans.

Maybe so.

Now that ya mention it, though, you'd need bait for something like that. Back when Rosa-chan opened up the route on Rue Lafayette, we found this thing like a noisemaker. But I'm sure they took it apart by now.

Well... they are clearly predators. Planned may give their intention too much credit. I'd like to study their level of intellect, that would tell me a great deal.

[ For all that Qetzi is a pissy bitch in person... she's quite serious about these kinds of conversations. Her family has always specialized in creatures. Having them, know them, cataloguing them and their may traits. ]

Indeed, a perfectly reasonable theory. We'll need to prove or disprove... I regret not taking samples while we were at the tower. I wasn't thinking straight.

[ She normally would have, it was very much in her habits, but even having the jars on her... she had been so distracted by their birthing ritual. ]

A hero. [... well, okay, no, he understands what's being asked.]

It's normal for humans in my world to have some sort of superhuman abilities. Mine is to temporarily erase those abilities. It seems to work with other powers, too, but I can't guarantee it works on everything here.

Short of every single living thing on the planet being disintegrated, yes. Though we might not recognize them as humanity, after all this is done. That's besides the point.

Makes sense.

The sound eaters wouldn't come out here while it rained. They might be more unpredictable in their home base. Still, the only way to figure that out is to set up the kind of surveillance you've suggested.

More information can only expand our options.

oh.

doesn't mean you can't be a lady, though, you know? it's like... what's that term, an endearment.
guys think girls like those all the time, so they always have one for girls they like.
or something like that.

i haven't really been around people my age in forever, either.
