UN: CallingIt [Video damn straight] backdated 14ish

[You're looking at a bridge. Asphalt, road, old rubble and garbage highlighted against a dreary noon sky. Three things are off.

i) the red dust is blowing everywhere, this way and that like a minituarized sandstorm. Maybe it just seems worse because your perspective is literally ground level.

ii) there's no sand. It might take a moment to spot what's probably become so natural (or soon will). The asphalt is as bare as the day the city was attacked. There's nothing to soften the sound of feet on the ground and keep vicious attackers at bay.

iii) you're moving. Or you seem to be. The view is crawling resolutely forward, navigating around debris with careful precision and rocking ever so slightly side to side when it traverses cracks.

What damn fool is this you may be mouthing (or maybe you switched to the sports channel, competitive wall staring). Regardless an unprompted tour of Ile Lacrox commences, working its way through the streets filled with Sound Eater birthing material (or like one street, there's like eight streets on island total, okay). It weaves in and out of the buildings, reminiscent of the rest of Reims, as its able. If characters give directions in the comments it might (!!!) even follow their suggestions/demands (if Tony's feeling generous, he might just do a donut to fuck with you).

Eventually after eight minutes or so the viewpoint approaches its apparent nemesis. Stairs. There's a silent showdown before the viewpoint begins to retreat and

The sound of a wrapper being disturbed. Almost instantaneously the viewpoint is upended as a Sound Eater pounces on it, rending, ripping, doing what Sound Eaters do. The viewpoint hits the ground and stares at the remains of a tortured rc car before going offline.]

He and Rei will both be answering folks, characters can have fun guessing which they're getting replies from. [She observed via the device, tapping a recording function. If the gentleman was going to be this reckless, there should at least be some record of the events, in case anything could be gleaned from it. Someone else would likely need to do the analyzing. That was a little outside of her usual expertise.

She watched as it crunched and motioned for him to come back with her, to get more distance on the island. Now that they knew water helped, she would take occasional sips of it to stay lucid. When far enough away to be sure nothing was going to happen, she typed on the device before offering it. Communication was going to be a bit slow.]

I was there.[It's also the first time she's ever seen video before, so that's taking the young Stark for a loop.] But I had to turn back, eventually. [And jump in the river to keep from suffocating.]

[Distance seemed like a good thing. He'd jumped when the Sound Eater had attacked, not having even seen it there. He was very glad exploring themselves had turned out to be a physical impossibility. He didn't relish the idea of tangoing with one of those things without a suit to protect him.

So tramping back down the street it was, away from the red dust and it's disconcerting effects. Reaching across he typed his reply back on her device seeing as he was currently down his own. ...He'd need to see about making a less destructable one at some point.]

Something went down on that island. It's covered in what looks like a bunch of burst cocoons. Might be where these things congregate. Did you notice anything?

[He just lost a dear tech companion. Where's his moment of mourning before you start the tests back up, Arya?]

We had the same problem. [Obviously he didn't like being limited., even by creepy alien dust.] Did your hesring become sharper when you were in contact with the dust?

[The burst cocoons, or other birthing materials had been visible, but none of them were obvious or clear as to the biology, not to mention the fact that it was sufficiently alien that she couldn't really decipher it or understand what she'd seen.

She put her finger to her lips, considering his question before replying.]

It may be a nesting ground. The red dust is strange. Why does the water affect it in this way.

[It, honestly, made her think of something otherworldly, for a sip to have done as much as it did.]

Water seemed to stop it.

Hard to say. It looks like the dust comes from them. Is them? It seems to be what the cocoons are made out of.

[A pause.]

Damn it. We're going to have to collect samples.

You kidding? Only thing that's gonna outlast them is the cockroaches.

[He knew he saw his father in her somewhere. Still waiting for her to bark when is he going to do something with his life.

Anyway, heartbeats are an internal sound. If what he suspects is true...]

I'm looking into the water thing. Could be useful. Were you able to hear sounds around you louder? Footsteps, your clothes, that type of stuff.

[She knew that was coming. They didn't have the tools to collect proper samples, however. The staff doctor at home would have wanted her lab with her. Looking left and right, she pointed towards a shop nearby that might have glass containers. It looked to have been a convenience store.]

I can collect some of the dust in a bottle.

[She wasn't going to suggest going back to the island. That was suicide, unless he came up with the idea himself.]

Only until I find a family sized can of Raid.

I'll have to work on learning that one. Collection bin's outside house one, next to the deck. Watch the hardware piles unless you want to be the first test case for tetanus.

Wonder if that's how the Sound Eaters hear?

[He's not going to come out and say he thinks that dust might turn things into Sound Eaters, but he thinks that dust might turn things into Sound Eaters.]

[He looked in the direction of the store.]

You know everything in there probably has botulism.

[He's just saying. And making time as he thinks. A dust sample is good. But he'd also like a part of the cocoons. Even if he traded someone for sand to safely get to the island though, he still has no tech to guarantee his own safety.]

But sure. Let's go raid the pyrex.

And they can't stand the sound and want to make it stop. So they kill whatever makes it.

I would have killed to make it stop... [She's also a killer though, so, perhaps that's not saying much.]

[She nodded at his first statement. She was looking, more or less, for something that was already empty. That would serve their purposes better than a full bottle of any variety. For her part, she didn't have the sand that he would need. So, she simply made her way along the sandpath towards the building.

It looked like one of those places that had been raided in the past, though not necessarily as well kept up a sand path. It would be best to test each step with painstaking care, but they could at least get some of the red sand for his testing. Well, after they'd gotten the container anyway. The hospital would have been better, but that was the other way, now wasn't it?

She was hoping he knew better what he wanted for sample storage if he saw it.]

Pass around the island perimeter a few times, drive up the middle. Wouldn't have been possible either way. I've been working on some batteries, but I haven't been able to get any to maintain power longer than fifteen minutes.
